Two Special Events at ATO 2015: Looking at the Gender Gap in Tech
In addition to featuring many of the top open technology experts in the world and nearly every major technology company, All Things Open 2015 will host two special events that take a close look at the gender gap currently existing in the technology industry.
With tech jobs growing three times faster than colleges are producing computer science graduates, an estimated one million software engineering jobs going unfilled by 2020. There has never been a better time to heighten awareness and explore the reasons why this situation exists.
On Monday, October 19, the award-winning documentary “Code: Debugging the Gender Gap” will be shown to conference attendees and the general public, courtesy of Red Hat. The movie will begin at 12:20 pm EST and last 1 hour 20 minutes. It will be shown on the main stage in the 4th floor Grand Ballroom. Through compelling interviews, artistic animation, and clever flashpoints in popular culture, the film examines the reasons why more girls and people of color are not seeking opportunities in computer science and explores how cultural mindsets, stereotypes, educational hurdles, and sexism all play roles in this national crisis.
Immediately following the screening, a world-class panel comprised of leading open technology and subject matter experts will share ideas for how anyone can create an inclusive environment that welcomes diverse perspectives. Panel members will include:
