Raleigh and the Research Triangle, a Global Epicenter of Technological and Open Source Innovation

All Things Open will take place in beautiful downtown Raleigh, NC.  We feel there’s not a better place on earth to host world-class technologists and decision makers.

Downtown Raleigh and the RTP

As one of the three “corners” of the Research Triangle Region, Raleigh is the home of tech companies like Red Hat, Citrix, Bandwidth, and Lulu and was just recognized by Forbes magazine as one of the country’s top tech hot spots. It was also just named “America’s Best City” by Businessweek.com, one of “America’s Coolest Towns” by GQ, and the “Most Educated City in America” by Men’s Health. Raleigh is also home to 10 traditional universities and colleges, including North Carolina State University, and together with the research created by nearby University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Duke University, form one of the best academic research networks in the world. In addition, the Research Triangle Park, one of the nation’s largest and most prestigious R&D business parks with more than 170 global companies and 36,000+ technology workers, is only a short drive away. Prominent Fortune 100 multi-national operations, university spin-outs and start-up businesses in more than a dozen pioneering industries, including biotechnology, information technology, and clean technologies all call RTP home.

In addition to conference related events, attendees will be within easy walking distance of everything Raleigh has to offer. The Raleigh Convention Center, the Red Hat Amphitheater and the Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts are all within toe-tapping steps of one another. These interlinking facilities are a cultural centerpiece of downtown. Raleigh also features world-class museums, best of Broadway shows and live concerts, capital area historic areas, professional and amateur sporting events and shopping mecca status with 11 major retail areas.

Raleigh Convention Center

The Raleigh Convention Center is a bustling hub for the culture, commerce and technologies that make the Triangle one of the most admired and sought after regions in the United States. The modern, 500,000 sq ft facility includes a soaring street-level lobby, an elegant ballroom and a massive exhibit hall as well as cutting edge tech amenities and award-winning culinary delights. The convention center is home to the iconic Cree Shimmer Wall, closely associated with the Downtown Amphitheater and Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts, and just steps from the city’s restaurants and hot spots. In 2011, the center earned the honor of “Most Creative Place to Host a Meeting” from ConventionSouth magazine.
