How do you count the people who couldn’t be in the room because they’ve been shut out? In this session you’ll learn the structural barriers low-income parents face as they attempt to break into tech. We will cover the awareness gaps that lead to the conditions that effectively shut out a population that has much to contribute.
In this talk, Nikema gives examples from her lived experiences of how diversity and inclusion efforts repeatedly miss the mark. She offers suggestions to event organizers and community leaders on ways beyond scholarships to create accessible and inclusive spaces.
