Digital Twins are a big deal and can give great insight into the interaction between various elements in a physical system. Building one is a daunting task. But in reality, a Digital Twin is just a virtual representation of a physical system based on incoming sensor data.

I’ll show you how to build a small digital twin using live environmental sensors to model a room full of people and the changes caused by adding or removing more people to the room.

Collecting, storing, querying and displaying time-series sensor data is critical in making business decisions based on IoT, and building a Digital Twin can be a cost-effective way to put the IoT to practical use.

Bill McFarland – OpenSync: Open Source for Cloud to Device Enabled Services (Introductory)

OpenSync is a new open source project focused on enabling devices with a cloud services platform. It is software appropriate for use on in-home network infrastructure devices such as gateways, routers, extenders, and repeaters. It is also appropriate for networked devices such as set top boxes, televisions, speakers, IoT devices, etc. OpenSync includes four fundamental functions: collection of measurements and statistics, efficient transport of these measurements to the cloud, cloud control of the device, and Software Defined Networking (SDN) to implement actions. OpenSync is based upon other popular open source components including Protbuf, MQTT, OVS, and OVSDB. OpenSync complements Linux based platform software such as OpenWRT, prplMesh, RDK, and other operating systems. Devices with OpenSync can deploy a steady stream of new cloud-based services with a minimum of software changes.
