Melanie Plageman

Pivotal

Melanie is a software engineer at Pivotal working on Greenplum, a massively parallel fork of PostgreSQL.

She started as a Postgres user, and, after developing a C-language extension for enhanced string formatting, became interested in hacking on Postgres. At Pivotal she has worked on query processing, both on Postgres’ planner and executor, as well as Pivotal’s open-source query optimizer for big data: Orca.

Most recently, she anchored the Greenplum server team, a 16-person globally distributed team, working to merge in Postgres code and make it MPP-aware.
