Amanda Brock
Open Invention Network
Amanda is the CEO of Trustable Software, an open initiative and not for profit company, looking at risk and transparency in Software through the determination of state of the art practices in engineering, legal and compliance to create auditable processes and appropriate insurance for open source.
Amanda is also a European Representative of the defensive patent pool, the Open Invention Network; a Director of OpenUK; joint-organiser of the UK Open Source Awards, having been a judge of the awards in 2014 and 2015; a member of the OASIS Open Projects’ Advisory Council (open source and open standards); and Chair of the Open Source (OS) and Intellectual Property (IP) Advisory Group of the United Nations Technology Innovation Labs.
She was General Counsel of Canonical, setting up the global legal team and running this for 5 years and has worked in a variety of sectors, ranging from Fashion to Fintech, across EMEA, US, AsiaPac and Emerging Markets, based out of the UK and Amsterdam.
As well as many years of structuring and negotiating a multitude of deals, her roles have included contribution to, and leadership of, a number of multi-organisational collaborative projects and open source initiatives. She has expertise in open source software, governance, IP, compliance audits, policies and processes as well as commercialisation and contracting around open source. Amanda was a member of the Open Stack Drafting Committee during its set up in 2012.
Amanda is a regular international speaker and author covering technology, collaboration and legal issues, an Executive Editor and co-Founder of the International Free and Open Source Law Review, Fellow of Open Forum Academy and Editor of the book, Free and Open Source Software: Law, Policy and Practice, 2nd Edition, to be published by Oxford University Press in 2020.
