2017 Schedule Overview: What’s New and Different?
Version 1.0 of the 2017 schedule has now been released and after more than 4 months of hard work, we’re very proud to say it features some amazing speakers and sessions.
Here are just a few of the highlights and changes attendees can expect to see:
More than 200 sessions will be featured, the most ever
Each year we’ve been fortunate to grow and offer a wider range of content to attendees than the year before, and 2017 is no different. More than 200 track sessions and 10 keynotes will be featured over both days of the event.
A world-class and diverse 200 speakers will be featured
The lineup will feature a diverse group consisting of not only seasoned technologists and veterans but of newcomers as well. We’re very proud to be hosting multiple first time speakers. Although it might be the first time you’ve heard of them, it certainly won’t be the last.
More extended/workshop sessions than ever before
While post-event attendee surveys tell us two days is the optimal duration for the conference what they also say is that longer, more in-depth sessions are of great interest. So, in response to that demand, we’re offering more at ATO 2017. Just a few that are on the schedule include:
- Introduction to Kubernetes (Monday)
- Azure and Open Source Software (Monday)
- Turning Your Open Source Project Into a Product (Monday)
- Nativescript 101 (Tuesday)
- Building Streaming Data Pipelines with Apache Kafka (Tuesday)
- Building Fully Decentralized Javascript Applications (Tuesday)
- FLOSS Desktops for Kids (Tuesday)
Programming will start later on Tuesday, October 24
Over the years we’ve noticed attendees arrive a little later on day two of the event, regardless of who is speaking on the main stage. This is entirely normal and occurs at every event we’ve ever been to. In recognition of this, we’ve decided to push the start of day two of the conference (Tuesday, October 24) to 9:30 am ET with keynotes beginning at 9:40 am ET. While this is a small change we hope it gives attendees the time needed to arrive, be seated, and enjoy keynotes on the main stage.
New tracks are being featured
Each year we survey attendees to determine if new topics should be explored, and this year we’ve added four (4) based on feedback. These include:
- Gaming (Monday, October 23)
- Security (Monday, October, 23)
- FinServ/FinTech (Tuesday, October 24)
- Linux (Tuesday, October 24)
Early Check-In and Registration to take place Sunday evening, October 22
One thing that won’t change from 2016 is that we’ll host early check-in and registration on Sunday evening, October 22 at the Raleigh Convention Center beginning at 5:00 pm ET. This was incredibly popular in 2016 with more than 500 people participating. *Please note the first 750 to check-in receive a FREE conference -shirt.
